Out of Fashion is a publication and exhibition project by three young photographers, Siru Kivistö, Eeva Rinne & Ida Taavitsainen, who share an interest in fashion as a form of art, craft and communication. Out of Fashion, a unique photographic magazine, will be published both in London and in Helsinki, Finland, and an exhibition with the same name will be held in Helsinki in August. The purpose of the project is to showcase the final work of the three recent photography graduates. They all intend to investigate fashion and the fashion system as something more than just a superficial act of consuming. Each of them approaches the subject from a different point of view. Questions about identity, memory and portrayal of women are raised, as well as discussion about the ethics of over consumption of fashion and its consequences on our lives and on the environment. The magazine includes a variety of texts from writers that the group has chosen from both fashion and art worlds. From analytical arcticles to short stories and an interview with the iconic British fashion designer Zandra Rhodes, the texts bring a more indepth and thought provoking viewpoint to the subject. Contributing writers: Pihla Hintikka, Anna Lehto, Johannes Reponen, Suvi Saloniemi, Marttiina Utriainen The magazine was launched in London on 31st May 2011. An exhibition showcasing the work in the magazine will be held at Myymälä2 Gallery in Helsinki 17.-25.8.2011. outoffashion.info@gmail.com
